DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The "Global Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) Nanoparticle/Powder Market" report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com's products.

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) has a higher refractive index than diamond, does not absorb visible light, and has a high degree of chemical stability. Therefore, it is widely used in paints and cosmetics as a white pigment and ultraviolet (UV) absorber. Titanium dioxide has three crystal structures: anatase, rutile and brookite. Anatase and rutile are used in industry. Rutile is the most stable. Anatase will transform into rutile at temperatures above 700°C.

Microparticle titanium dioxide (TiO2) and nanoparticle titanium dioxide (TiO2-NPs) are very different materials. Micron-sized titanium dioxide is mainly used as a white pigment in the coating and cosmetic industries. Compared with conventional TiO2 particles of the same mass or volume, TiO2-NPs have a larger surface area of nanoparticles of a given mass or volume, thereby improving catalytic activity and UV absorption at certain wavelengths.

TiO2-NPs have the effect of shielding ultraviolet rays, and rutile is widely used in the field of cosmetics, especially sunscreens. Anatase exhibits a photocatalytic function (more important than rutile), and provides self-cleaning ability under the sun, air purification, water quality improvement, anti-microbial and anti-mildew functions, and is suitable for many paint and coating fields.

Nanoporous TiO2 films have been widely used as working electrodes for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC). DSSC is composed of sensitizing dye, transparent conductive substrate (fluorine-doped tin oxide), nano-sized TiO2 lm, iodide electrolyte and counter electrode (Pt or carbon).

Commercially available TiO2-NPs vary in particle size, surface area, purity (for example, due to doping, coating, or quality control), surface characteristics, crystalline form, chemical reactivity, and other characteristics. Photocatalytic paints and coatings (containing photoactive titanium dioxide (TiO2) as a white pigment) are widely used in building protection due to the self-cleaning activity of titanium dioxide, which can effectively remove inorganic and organic pollutants as well as dirt and stains.

The photocatalytic coating is mainly composed of ceramic oxide nanoparticles, most of which are based on titanium dioxide (TiO2). Other types include a mixture of TiO2 and silicon dioxide (SiO2) and/or zinc oxide (ZnO). Tungsten oxide has been used in indoor photocatalysts activated by visible light.
